DURANGO, Colo. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team made a successful 2022 debut Thursday, downing Fort Lewis College, 1-0, at Dirks Field.
Hoku Schatz (Hau'ula, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Univ. of Idaho/Kahuku HS) accounted for the game's lone score, firing in an unassisted shot 12 minutes into the contest.
The Silverswords (1-0) got five saves from
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) who increased her already-established program records of wins to12 and clean sheets to 9. The 'Swords' defense was able to contain the Skyhawks (0-1), holding them to without a shot in the final 15 minutes.
Asya Holt (Honolulu/Roosevelt) and newcomers
Ruby Burroughs (Santa Clarita, Calif./California Baptist/William Hart HS) and
Gracie Bowers (Murietta, Calif./California Baptist/Vista Murrieta HS) each attempted team-highs of three shots for Chaminade. Schatz and
Lindsey Wilson (Mililani, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Mililani) both took a pair of chances at the Fort Lewis net.
Skyhawks goalkeeper Katlyn Rosenbaum took the loss.
The 'Swords will remain in Durango and face Western Colorado on Saturday.
