HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team opened their season-ending six-match home stand Monday with a 4-1 loss to Point Loma at Saint Louis Field.
Jordan Ponsar (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) accounted for the Silverswords' lone goal, which came in the waning minutes.
Chaminade dropped to 0-8-2 on the season and 0-4-1 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sea Lions improved to 7-4 and 3-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, Point Loma took over in the final 45 with Marlon Buck scoring twice. However, the other two goals Chaminade surrendered were self-inflicted with own-goals in the 62nd and 67th minutes as they attempted to clear the ball away from the net in both instances.
The 'Swords finally punched one in on Ponsar's header that just snuck through the left post in the 87th minute.
Zach McClellan (San Marcos, Calif./San Marcos) delivered the assist, the first points of the year for both.
Chaminade attempted four shots, three on-goal, with
Ryan Anderson (Carlsbad, Calif./Cal State Monterey Bay/San Marcos HS) taking two of them.
Alessio Franco (Guadalajara, Mexico/East Grand Rapids, Mich.) had the 'Swords' other shot. Point Loma took 16 shots with nine being on target.
Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made seven saves for the 'Swords while PLNU's Finn Simmersbach made two stops.
The Silverswords return to action Thursday against Biola. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
