Softball Wins Finale at Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Chaminade University softball team wrapped up the 2023 Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock Sunday with a 4-0 win over Central Washington at Warrior Field.

The Silverswords were held to just four hits but made the most of them. Chasity McKean (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/College of Southern Nevada/Kapolei HS) had two of them including a two-out, two-run double in the top of the first inning.

Chaminade added insurance in the sixth when Taryn Fujioka (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) reached on a dropped catch error by the first baseman. Isabel Rodriguez (Littleton, Colo./Columbine), who walked to lead off the inning, scored to put the 'Swords up, 3-0.

Bailey Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress) made it 4-0 with an RBI single.

Meanwhile starter Bailey Benson (Cheney, Wash./Gonzaga Preparatory) kept the Wildcats off balance. The freshman allowed just five hits and one walk on the morning to earn the win and improve to 6-9 on the season.

Isabel Womack took the loss to fall to 6-6.

The Silverswords have one more game in Turlock, facing Dominican in a Pacific West Conference makeup game from Tuesday's rainout.
