HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team opened the regular season Saturday, dropping a 3-1 decision to nationally-ranked Northwest Nazarene at Saint Louis Field.
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) accounted for the Silverswords' lone goal, curling in a corner kick in the 17th minute. At the time, last year's leading goal scorer squared the game at 1 after the sixth-ranked Nighthawks (1-0-1) put in the initial goal just five minutes earlier by Jim Wagenaar.
The 'Swords (0-1) managed to keep it tied for the next 29 minutes before Wagenaar had the go-ahead goal.
Wagennar had a hand in the Northwest Nazarene's final score, assisting on the insurance goal in the 65th minute.

Owen Malone (Carlsbad, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Carlsbad HS) accounted for five of Chaminade's eight total shots on the afternoon.
Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) had five saves for the 'Swords. NNU's Price Sawyer earned the win.
The Silverswords return to the pitch Monday when they host San Francisco State at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is at 10 a.m.
