Men’s Soccer Falls at Academy of Art

SAN FRANCISCO – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Friday dropped a 3-1 decision to Academy of Art at Paul Goode Field.

Oliver Horgan (Reno, Nev./Cal Poly Humboldt/Galena HS) punched in his first career goal for the Silverswords who fell to 0-6-1 overall and 0-2 in the Pacific West Conference.

The Urban Knights, who posted consecutive multi-goal games for the first time this season, got their first win to improve to 1-6-3 and 1-1 in the PacWest.

After allowing the game's first two scores by halftime, the 'Swords found themselves in a larger hole after receiving a red card just over a minute into the second half which put them a player down.

However, it did not seem to matter when CUH answered in the 54th minute. Horgan headed in a corner kick by Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn), cutting the deficit to one goal. It was Horgan's first collegiate goal, which included his two years at Cal Poly Humboldt while Caba collected his third assist of the season, putting him one behind the PacWest leaders.

But ART U added a penalty kick goal eight minutes later to account for the final margin.

Chaminade actually outshot the Urban Knights, 15-to-9, and had seven corner kicks to ART U's three. Caba led the 'Swords with three shots.

Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) made one save in taking the loss. Ronaldo Gutierrez tallied three saves to earn the win.

The physical contest resulted in nine total cautions and 44 combined fouls.

The Silverswords wrap up their road trip Saturday at Dominican University of California.
