SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team on Saturday got goals from
Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) and
Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) to score a 2-1 win over Dominican University of California at Kennelly Field.
The victory capped an unblemished 3-0 road trip for the Silverswords, who went undefeated on the mainland for the first time in program history.
Chaminade improved to 5-2-2 overall and 3-0 in the Pacific West Conference for the first time ever. Dominican fell to 3-6-1 and 0-2-1 in the conference.
For the second straight game, the 'Swords scored as time wound down in the first half. In the 44th minute, Kiefer got to a loose ball off a Penguins' misplay and fired a perfect shot straightaway from 25 yards, just clearing underneath the crossbar.
Chaminade took a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute when Mo'okini blasted a free kick from 40 yards out that DUC goalkeeper Natalie Haro tried to punch out but ended up deflecting backwards into the net. It was Mo'okini's team-leading fourth goal of the season, her third straight game of scoring a goal, one away from the school record set by Randi Fontes during the non-championship spring 2021 season.
The Penguins got on the board a minute later on a penalty kick to reduce the deficit to 2-1. However the 'Swords got their defense to not allow Dominican to get off a shot in the final five minutes.
Chaminade got off six shots, three on-goal, with Kiefer getting off two.
Naomi Takata (Honolulu/Pearl City) made one save to pick up her fifth win this season and the 23rd of her career. Haro also had one save for DUC while her record fell to 0-4.
The Silverswords return to O'ahu and will have 11 days off to face in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University on Thursday, Oct. 12, which will end their six straight games away from their home pitch of Saint Louis Field.
