Men’s Soccer Falls to Pioneers

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team on Thursday completed a whirlwind four-games-in-nine-days stretch, dropping a 3-1 decision to Cal State East Bay at Saint Louis Field.

Kaden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) scored his first career goal on a penalty kick in the 35th minute.

The loss dropped the Silverswords to 0-3 on the season while the Pioneers improved to 2-0-1 in the first meeting between the two programs since 2014.

CSUEB connected on the first goal in the 27th minute before Medeiros, a Western Oregon transfer, powered in the equalizer after the Pioneers committed a foul in the penalty area.

However, the Pioneers got the go-ahead goal in the 40th minute when Michael Rossi's direct kick from just outside the top of the box snuck inside the upper-right box.

Bradley Moorhouse got an insurance goal for Cal State East Bay in the 72nd minute to complete the scoring.

Chaminade took six shots, three on-goal with Kala'i Duncan (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Kapalama) taking a team-high two shots. Meanwhile, the Pioneers were efficient in its shot-taking, firing eight shots at the goal with six being on-target.

Brandon Yasue (Honolulu/Kaiser) made three saves to absorb the loss. Adan Corona earned the win for CSUEB with two saves.

The Silverswords will take an extended break and return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 when they host a non-conference tilt against crosstown rival Hawai'i Pacific University at Saint Louis Field. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
