Women’s Basketball Iced by Penguins

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team on Monday suffered their lowest scoring output of the season, falling in a 77-40 decision to Dominican University of California at McCabe Gymnasium.
 
Coming off the bench for the first time since Dec. 30, Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS) had 12 points and eight rebounds for the Silverswords, who fell to 2-13 on the season and 0-10 in the Pacific West Conference.
 
Ashley Holen (Watford City, N.D./Minot State University/Watford City HS) had another seven points for the 'Swords followed by Morgan Escobedo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle) with six points, five rebounds and three steals.
 
Alex Salise had 15 points for the Penguins (14-3, 7-2 PacWest), who have defeated Chaminade in 23 straight meetings.
 
The 'Swords were held to single digits in all but the second quarter when they were out-scored by a slim 16-15 margin.
 
Chaminade made 13 field goals, shot 23.6 percent and had just five assists but managed to make 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
 
Dominican shot 41.7 percent and went to the free throw line 30 times, the most by any CUH opponent this season. DUC also had the edge in rebounding with a 45-to-36 margin.
 
The Silverswords will face intercity rival Hawai'i Pacific University on Thursday at McCabe Gym with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. The game will also count in the PacWest Hawai'i standings.
