Women’s Soccer Ends SoCal Trip at Point Loma

SAN DIEGO – The Chaminade University women's soccer team on Saturday concluded their difficult southern California sojourn with a 3-0 defeat to defending Division II national champion Point Loma at the PLNU Soccer Field.
 
The Silverswords fell to 5-4-4 overall while their Pacific West Conference mark fell to 4-2-2 and 14 points in the conference.
 
The Sea Lions, ranked nationally at No. 21 in the current United Soccer Coaches Poll, is 10-2-1 and 7-1 in the PacWest. With 21 conference points, they are one point behind PacWest-leading Hawai'i Hilo, who lost at Westmont on Saturday.
 
The 'Swords stood toe-to-toe with the Sea Lions before the home team got on the board with the game's first goal in the 39th minute.
 
Although Chaminade wasn't able to get a clean look at the Point Loma goal, their defense maintained a one-goal deficit before the Sea Lions tacked on two goals in the final 10 minutes.
 
The 'Swords were held to just four shots the Sea Lions took 18. Kenna Kiefer (Vail, Ariz./Cienega), Gracie Knowd (Ramona, Calif./New Mexico State/Ramona HS), Clara Slate-Liu (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Ecolè Alpha Secondary) and Bryana Yoshida (Makakilo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Fresno Pacific University/Kapolei HS) each took shots at the Point Loma goal.
 
Jordhan Kieres (Lakewood, Ohio/Bellermine Univ./Lakewood HS) got the start in goal for the 'Swords, her first action since Sept. 25, and made three stops. Her counterpart, Julia Pinnell made two saves.
 
The Silverswords return to the Saint Louis Field pitch for their final two home games of the 2024 season, starting Wednesday against Fresno Pacific with kickoff at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 is their home finale against in-city rival Hawai'i Pacific University.
