HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team fell to Fresno Pacific Sunbirds in their first match back on their home pitch after their southern California road trip by a 2-0 count.
Goalkeeper
Jonah Valmonte (Poolesville, Md./Robert Morris University/Poolesville HS) collected nine saves on the day, holding the Sunbirds to two goals with 21 shots, 11 being on-goal. For Valmonte, he tallied his third consecutive match with nine saves including his previous game at No. 14 Point Loma.
The 'Swords took seven shots with four on-goal.
Ian Garcia (Chula Vista, Calif./Cuyamaca College/Mater Dei HS) led CUH with three shots, one on-goal.
Cameron Rozsa (San Marcos, Calif./Univ. of Saint Katherine/Mission Hills HS) and
Owen Caba (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) both took single shots while
Kayden Medeiros (Pukalani, Maui, Hawai'i/Western Oregon Univ./Kamehameha-Maui HS) attempted a second-half shot.
Both Sunbird goals came from Lucas Ribeiro, whose first goal came in the eight minute. He added an insurance goal on a 59th minute penalty kick.
The 'Swords are now 1-8-3 overall and 1-5-3 in the Pacific West Conference. The Sunbirds are 6-4-5 and 5-3 in the PacWest.
The Silverswords will compete in their last home match of the season on Saturday as they take on their in-city rival, the Hawai'i Pacific University at 12 p.m. Their first meeting took place earlier this season with HPU claiming the 2-1 non-conference victory. This match will also be Senior Day for both the men's and women's seniors with ceremonies taking place at the end of their respective matches.
