Men’s Hoops Races Past Northwest Indian College

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's basketball team put on their running shoes on Wednesday and put on a track meet in their 115-70 win against Northwest Indian College at McCabe Gymnasium.

Kris King (Washington, D.C./Vincennes University/Fork Union Military Academy), the reigning Pacific West Conference Player of the Week, had 20 points, nine rebounds and six steals while his twin brother, Kent King (Washington, D.C./Vincennes University/Fork Union Military Academy), added another 19 points, five boards and five steals in his Chaminade debut.

Jackson Last (Hurricane, Utah/Robert Morris University/Hurricane HS) had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Chaminade, which improved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2018-19 season when they began 10-0. They also hit the century scoring mark in a regulation game for the first time since Jan. 2, 2023 when they posted 117 against Champion Christian.

Jamir Thomas (Berkeley, Calif./City College of San Francisco/Berkeley HS) hit for 14 points with Roland Banks II (Bakersfield, Calif./Fullerton College/Cathedral HS) adding another 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Tyasin Burns had 25 points for Northwest Indian, which is based out of Bellingham, Washington. The Eagles, who fell to 0-4 against NCAA competition, brought a sizeable following thanks to two former local standouts – Landon Kauka from Kohala High and Keenan Kahoekapu from Kalaheo High.

NWIC led 10-5 early in the first half but the 'Swords went on a 20-0 surge, hitting all eight shots during the three-and-a-half minute span. Six different Silverswords scored during the run with Thomas and Banks leading with four each.

Chaminade would add 10-0 and 14-4 runs to grab a 54-30 halftime lead.

The 'Swords would post 61 second-half points as they cruised past the Eagles in the second all-time meeting between the schools. Chaminade won the first meeting, 132-67, in the 2016-17 season.

The Silverswords forced 33 NWIC turnovers and recycled them into 47 points. They shot 45.8 percent from the floor and hit 12 3-pointers with 54 rebounds and 20 assists.

The Eagles were held to a 32.9 percent clip, made four triples and brought in 46 rebounds.

The Silverswords will take the Thanksgiving break off and return to action on Saturday, Nov. 30 when they face Grace Christian in the Hoops in Hawai'i Classic at the Hawai'i Pacific University Shark Tank. Tipoff is at 4:45 p.m.
