HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's tennis team on Saturday fell to the University of Hawai'i Hilo in a pair of matches at the Joint Base Pearl Harbor at Hickam by identical 7-0 counts.
In doubles action to open the first match,
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and
Jordyn Luna (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Maui) trailed No. 1 doubles opponents, Satoho Toriumi and Hikari Osaki, 4-2, when the match ended after the Vulcans captured the doubles point with wins in Nos. 2 and 3.
Lau had a pair of competitive No. 1 singles matches against Nanami Okamoto, falling 6-0, 6-3 in the Silverswords' first match then 6-4, 6-0 her second singles match against McKenna Mountain.
Both of Luna's singles matches at No. 2 were also competitive, dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Mountain in the 10 a.m. match, then 6-2, 6-2 to Nanami Okamoto in the 1 p.m. match.
After dropping her first set in No. 3 singles in the first match,
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) came back and battled Toriumi to a 6-3 loss in the second set.
The Silverswords will face LSU-Alexandria on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Courts. A second match between the 'Swords and Generals was canceled due to a scheduling conflict at the venue.
