HILO, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University women's tennis team put a wrap on the 2024 season on Easter Sunday with a pair of defeats to the University of Hawai'i Hilo at the UH Hilo Tennis Courts.
The Silverswords dropped both matches by 7-0 counts.
In the morning matchup, the Vulcans took the doubles point, winning the Nos. 2 and 3 spots.
In singles action, the 'Swords put up healthy competition in the first two spots.
Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) battled Satoho Toriumi to a 6-3, 6-0 defeat in No. 1 singles. At the No. 2 spot,
Jordyn Luna (Kahului, Maui, Hawai'i/Maui) took McKenna Mountain to a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the loss.
Kylie Ye (Laie, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Asia Pacific International School) and
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) also took single points in their respective No. 3 and No. 5 pairings.
In the afternoon meeting, UH Hilo again captured the doubles point by taking two of three decisions.
In one of the Silverswords' most competitive singles matches of the year, Lau at the No. 1 pairing took Mountain to a first-set tiebreaker, succumbing 7-2, which gave Mountain the set win, 7-6. Mountain also won the second set, 6-2.
At No. 2 singles, Luna fell in straight sets to Toriumi but gave her a run in a 6-2, 6-4 decision.
Ye fell to Julia Barden in No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Chaminade ended the season at 0-11 while UH Hilo improved to 9-6.
