Women’s Soccer Draws at Jessup to Tie NCAA Mark

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team on Saturday concluded their final trip to the continental United States with a 0-0 draw to Jessup University at Warrior Field.

The scoreless tie was the fifth for the Silverswords this season, becoming just the third team in NCAA Division II history with five 0-0 draws, joining South Dakota State in 2003 and, most recently, West Virginia State in 2018.

The 'Swords are 1-4-8 overall and 1-4-4 in the Pacific West Conference while Jessup is 1-8-4 and 0-5-3 in the conference.

With its eighth draw this season, Chaminade is one away from tying the Division II record of nine set four times previously. Fellow PacWest member Biola joined that group earlier in the afternoon after its 0-0 tie against Vanguard.

The 'Swords outshot the Warriors on their senior day, 12-to-7, including seven of them on-goal. Courtney Hames (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Sofia Desirello (Menifee, Calif./University of North Dakota/Paloma HS) each took two shots with both of Hames' tries being on target.

The 'Swords' five other shots on-goal came from Lela Gi (Las Vegas/Liberty), Shannon Healy (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde), Bailey Loria (Fontana, Calif./Aquinas), Isabella Narvaez (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) and Bryana Yoshida (Makakilo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Fresno Pacific University/Kapolei HS).

Chaminade also had the attack advantage in corner kicks with eight to Jessup's two.

Goalkeeper Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) made three saves in recording her sixth clean sheet of the season, tying her with Naomi Takata who accomplished the shutout feat twice (2022, 2023).

The Silverswords wrap up the season Thursday at in-state rival University of Hawai'i Hilo on the Big Island with kickoff at 12:30 p.m.
