HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team made their McCabe Gymnasium opener on Sunday with an 86-47 exhibition win over Northwest Indian College.
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Silverswords while
Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) came off the bench with 16 points and 12 boards.
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) added another 12 points and four steals.
All 10 Silverswords made one field goal, had at least three points, two rebounds and one assist.
Lauren Gould led the Eagles with 15 points.
Chaminade shot 50.8 percent from the floor while holding NWIC to just 13-of-71 from the floor for 18.3 percent including 5-of-37 (13.5 percent) from 3-point range. The 'Swords also outrebounded the Eagles, 62-to-34.
The Silverswords held NWIC to just five free throws before the Eagles, who were 0-for-their-first 15 from the floor, finally got a shot to fall, a desperation 38-foot heave from Jasmyne Torres as the first quarter clock expired. By then, the 'Swords led 26-8.
Chaminade opens its real season against Saint Martin's University on Friday in the PacWest/GNAC Challenge at the Hawai'i Pacific University Shark Tank on Friday at 4 p.m.
