COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's basketball team on Monday opened their three-game road jaunt to Southern California with a 79-49 loss to Vanguard University at the Freed Center.
Holly Dolny (Melbourne, Australia/Loyola University Chicago/Heathdale Christian College) and
Alyssa Schuetze (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak) paced the Silverswords with 10 points each.
Maddy Weaver (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) added eight points and nine rebounds.
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) chipped in six. Chaminade fell to 0-7 and 0-3 in the Pacific West Conference.
Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) hauled in eight rebounds and had a third quarter 3-pointer, extending her streak of consecutive games with a triple to eight dating back to the final game of the 2024-25 season.
Emma Schaaf had a game-high 21 points for the Lions who improved to 6-1 and 2-0 in the PacWest.
After a cold first half with just 14 points, the 'Swords found their rhythm in the final 20 minutes with 35 points, making 13-of-27 shots with Weaver and Dolny combining for 15.
Chaminade shot 36.2 percent from the floor, knocked down four 3-pointers and was 11-of-19 at the free throw line while grabbing 36 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists.
Vanguard shot at a 38.2 percent clip, was 8-of-30 from long range and was 19-of-26 at the charity stripe. The Lions had 42 boards, 13 assists with 13 turnovers.
The Silverswords continue their road trip Wednesday at Azusa Pacific. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Hawai'i time.
