HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team on Saturday dropped a 63-46 decision to Pacific West Conference newcomer Jessup University at McCabe Gymnasium.
The Silverswords could not get on track offensively, as they fell to 6-17 overall and 5-12 in the PacWest.
Sameera Elmasri (Shawnee, Kan./Birmingham-Southern Univ./Saint Thomas Aquinas HS), playing her penultimate home game of her Chaminade career, had 10 points and added six rebounds.
Madison Gage (Broomfield, Colo./Legacy) had eight points while
Morgan Escobedo (Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle) added six points and eight boards. She and Gage also had three steals.
Julien Parado (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Campbell) was the 'Swords' No. 3 scorer with seven points.
Kayla Vieira led the Warriors (10-13, 5-10 PacWest) with 18 points in the teams' first-ever meeting.
The 'Swords could not get the ball to drop in the hoop, making just nine field goals in the first three quarters. That included the second period in which they not score a point until a
Kali Jones (Hyrum, Utah/Mountain Crest) free throw with 21 seconds left until halftime. Gage got CUH's only bucket of the quarter with a steal and breakaway layup with three seconds left.
The 'Swords managed to get better results in the final quarter, shooting 50 percent from the floor and outscoring the Warriors, 23-9. Elmasri, who had just two points entering the fourth, popped a pair of triples in the quarter.
Chaminade shot 24.2 percent from the floor but out-boarded Jessup, 46-to-41. The Warriors made 41.7 percent of their shots and had 15 assists.
The Silverswords will face Fresno Pacific on Monday in their final home game of the season. Elmasri, their lone senior, will be honored after the contest, which tips at 5:30 p.m.
