SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – The Chaminade University softball team wrapped up their three-game series at Dominican University of California on Tuesday with a 4-1 loss at Penguin Field.
Miranda Diaz (Whittier, Calif./Cerritos College/California HS) clubbed her first career home run in defeat, one of just three hits by the Silverswords on the afternoon.
Chaminade (4-29 overall, 3-15 Pacific West Conference) dropped its fourth straight at Penguin Field dating back to 2023 and are still seeking their first win on its current northern California road swing.
Just 24 hours after setting the school's career hits record,
Taryn Fujioka (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Pearl City) didn't waste any time in getting base knock No. 173, a single to lead off the game. It also extended her hitting streak to eight, the second longest of her career.
Larchelle Tuifao (Ewa Beach, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Kapolei) and
Lex Lopez (Visalia, Calif./Redwood) reached in the second inning on a single and hit-by-pitch, respectively, but couldn't advance any further.
Diaz finally got Chaminade on the board, crushing a two-out solo homer to center to give them a 1-0 lead in the third. However, that proved to be the 'Swords' final hit with their final two baserunners getting on board via a hit batter on
Mikala Jacobsen (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress College/Cypress HS) in the fifth and a Diaz walk in the sixth.
Meanwhile, Chaminade went a pitch-by-committee approach.
Vanessa Pena (Paramount, Calif./Paramount) went the first two innings, allowing just one hit.
Kamryn Lopez (Bakersfield, Calif./Garces Memorial) went the next two but allowed two runs in the fourth and was charged with the loss.
Ava Walker (Las Vegas/Faith Lutheran) went the final two frames, allowing two runs in the sixth, although a leadoff error made them both unearned.
Taylor Rodriguez got the win for DUC (18-14, 9-7 PacWest).
The Silverswords will get two days off then resume action on Friday at conference newcomer Menlo College to start a three-game series.
