Baseball Drops Pair to Biola

WAIPAHU, O'ahu, Hawai'i – The Chaminade University baseball team on Friday dropped both games of their Pacific West Conference twin bill to Biola University at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park (CORP) Baseball Complex.

The Silverswords, who took the series opener on Thursday, could not protect a two-run lead in Friday's first game in their 7-4 loss. They also dropped the nightcap, 7-2. Both games were seven innings in length.

Jake Harper (San Pedro, Calif./El Camino College/San Pedro HS) accounted for four hits on the afternoon including three in the third game of the series while Cade Fujii (Kapolei, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Porterville College/Kapolei HS) homered for the third time in the past six games.

Chaminade fell to 7-12 and 5-10 in the PacWest while Biola improved to 11-11 and 8-7 in the conference.

Game 1: BU 7, CUH 4
Trailing 1-0, Andrew Karns (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) tied it with an RBI double in the second followed by Harper's run-scoring single which put the 'Swords ahead.

After the Eagles knotted the score at 2 in the third, Alex Greb (Seattle/Wenatchee Valley College/Ballard HS) tripled to lead off the home half of the frame followed by Fujii who went yard for the third time this season, putting CUH up 4-2. All three of Fujii's long balls have come at CORP.

The Eagles responded in the fifth with a game-tying two-run double from Isaiah Leon then took a 5-4 lead on an RBI groundout from Cole Thomson. They also added two runs in the seventh.

Chaminade managed to get the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh but could not push them across.

Karns had three of the 'Swords' 10 hits while Grb had two more. Joseph Cossette (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Cerritos Colelge/Laguna Hills HS) took the loss.

Nathan Hernandez got the win for Biola while Dylan Alanis got his third save.

Game 2: BU 7, CUH 2
The Eagles plated a pair of first-inning runs while Casey Kudell (Irvine, Calif./Irvine Valley College/Irvine HS) drilled a run-scoring double a half-inning later.

But Leon was a one-person wrecking crew with a solo homer in the third followed by a grand slam in the fourth.

Harper drove in Chaminade's second run with a single in the fourth, his third hit of the game.

Chris Cody (Orange, Calif./Irvine Valley College/El Modena HS) was charged with the loss while Biola's Gabe Magallan earned the win.

The Silverswords will look to salvage a split on Saturday in the series finale with the game shifting back to Les Murakami Stadium on the University of Hawai'i Manoa campus. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
