Volleyball Downs Jessup in Conference Opener

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team officially opened Pacific West Conference action Saturday with a 25-17, 26-28, 25-14, 25-11 win over Jessup University at McCabe Gymnasium.

Audrah Johnson (Nampa, Idaho/Utah State University/Nampa HS) put down a match-high 13 kills while hitting .391 while the Silverswords held the Warriors to a negative-.023 attack percentage for their season-high third consecutive win. The 'Swords defeated Dominican University of California on Thursday in what was designated as a non-conference match.

The victory also extended Chaminade's PacWest winning streak to 26 straight, dating back to October 2023.

Lillie Hinton (Spicewood, Texas/Lake Travis), Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons), Malena Mihalik (Santa Fe, Argentina/San Eugenio) and Alizaysha Sopi (Waianae, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Tennessee State University/Kapolei HS) each put down six kills for Chaminade (6-7, 1-0 PacWest).

Krueger also had four blocks as did Beele Wieczorek (Wiesbaden, Germany/Elly-Heuss School) while Tabby Allen (Leander, Texas/Rouse) had a team-high five.

Lilinoe Paschoal (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin) led the 'Swords with 23 assists while senior Allexis Iramina (Honolulu/Moanalua) dished out 13 in her first career start. The latter also had career-best 11 digs for her second career double-double, her first since September 2022 in her freshman season.

Sina Bauer (Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany/Maximillian-von-Montgelas Gymnasium Vilsbiburg) made 12 digs while Mihalik added 11 more.

Addie Hamilton had 10 kills for Jessup (3-5, 0-1 PacWest).

After spotting the Warriors a 3-0 lead in the opening set, the 'Swords roared back on a 6-0 run. Another 6-0 surge followed by a 6-1 run would give them the convincing set win.

Jessup rallied in the second set, rallying from a 13-7 deficit and taking a 23-20 edge. CUH countered with four straight points but could not capitalize on two set points as the Warriors knotted the match.

Chaminade came out firing by opening the third frame, outscoring the Warriors, 7-1, and out-pointing them, 13-3, in natural points to take a 2-1 lead.

It was all Silverswords in the final set, allowing just three kills and forcing 11 hitting errors, holding Jessup to a minus-.320 percentage in their convincing final set win.

Chaminade hit .189 with 50 kills, 46 assists, 56 digs, eight service aces and 10 total team blocks. Jessup had 31 kills on 28 assists, 45 digs and nine blocks.

The Silverswords hit the road to continue PacWest action when they are at Westmont College on Wednesday. First serve is at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time.
