Women’s Soccer’s PacWest Opener Ends in Draw

FRESNO, Calif. – The result of the Chaminade University women's soccer team's Pacific West Conference opener on Thursday was the same as its previous four non-conference matches – a draw.

The Silverswords took Fresno Pacific to a scoreless deadlock at Ramirez Field, moving their record to 0-0-5 and 0-0-1 in the PacWest, a school-record fifth consecutive tie. It was their fourth scoreless tie of the season, one shy of the NCAA Division II record of 0-0 draws set in 2003 by South Dakota State and again in 2018 by West Virginia Wesleyan.

The 'Swords outshot the Sunbirds, 18-to-9 including 9-to-2 in shots on-goal, in the final PacWest meeting between the two programs. FPU will join the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) in 2026.

Haley Mo'okini (San Gabriel, Calif./Gabrielino) took a game-high four shots with three on-goal, mostly on set pieces. Brynn Shimabukuro (Aiea, O'ahu, Hawai'i/South Dakota State/Aiea HS) and Clara Slate-Liu (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada/Ecolè Alpha Secondary) took three shots at the net each.

Bryana Yoshida (Makakilo, O'ahu, Hawai'i/Fresno Pacific University/Kapolei HS), who spent four seasons at FPU, returned to her former home pitch and took two shots as did Courtney Hames (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Isabella Narvaez (Vail, Ariz./Cienega).

Chaminade's first-year goalkeeper Maddie Merrick (Parker, Colo./Creighton University/Legend HS) made two saves in recording her fourth clean sheet of the year.

The 'Swords outshot the Sunbirds, 5-to-2, in the final 10 minutes including a scoring opportunity when a shot from 15 yards out was two feet wide of the right post with 90 seconds left.

Ayana Kirisimasi had nine saves for Fresno Pacific (0-4-1, 0-0-1 PacWest).

The Silverswords will be at Dominican University of California on Saturday. Kickoff is at 9:30 a.m. Hawai'i time.
