Women’s Tennis Ends Season at UH Hilo

HILO, Hawai'i – Twenty-four hours after the Chaminade University women's tennis team played their final match on O'ahu against Hawai'i Pacific University, the Silverswords wrapped up the 2026 season Saturday against their other in-state foe, the University of Hawai'i Hilo, at the UH Hilo Tennis Courts.

Rain forced a delay to the start of the match but after the weather cleared, the 'Swords dropped the match, 7-0.

The Vulcans (4-8) won the doubles points with wins over Chaminade's No. 3 doubles squad of Selena Buttery (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and Danica Palmer (Philadelphia/Upper Merion Area) and the No. 2 team of Kirra Carvalho (Lihue, Kaua'i, Hawai'i/Kaua'i) and Hannah Lewis (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs).

Berylin Lau (Wailuku, Maui, Hawai'i/Kamehameha-Maui) and Isabella Minaudo (Honolulu/Hawai'i Technology Academy) managed to win a game at the No. 1 doubles spot.

In singles, Carine Bleasdell (Kihei, Maui, Hawai'i/Hawai'i Technology Academy) saw her first action at the sixth position. Buttery managed to take two games in the second set at the fifth spot.

The Silverswords (0-10) got a competitive showing with Lau batting Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas at the No. 2 spot before falling 6-2, 6-4.

A second match between the two teams that was scheduled for 2 p.m. had just gotten underway when the skies opened up again with another downpour, causing the match to be canceled.

Saturday was the final career matches for five seniors. Buttery, Carvalho, Lau and Palmer were four-year veterans while Bleasdell played three years with the team.
