HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's volleyball team made it 2-for-2 in the opening day of the Hawai'i Challenge with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 win over Western Colorado University at McCabe Gymnasium.
 
Lillie Hinton (Spicewood, Texas/Lake Travis) put down a match-high 14 kills while Reina Krueger (Fort Collins, Colo./Liberty Commons) added another nine kills and two blocks for the Silverswords who evened their overall record to 4-4. Earlier in the afternoon, Chaminade survived a nail biter in a five-set win over Saint Martin's.
 
Tabby Allen (Leander, Texas/Rouse) and Siria Guerini (Martinengo, Italy/Universita Telematica Pegaso/Liceo don Lorenzo Milani HS) added seven kills each with the former pushing back four blocks including a pair of solo stuffs.
 
Lilinoe Paschoal (Paukukalo, Maui, Hawai'i/Baldwin) tallied her fourth consecutive double-double with 28 assists and 10 digs.
 
Maggie Legg had 11 kills for the Mountaineers (4-2, 0-2 Hawai'i Challenge), who have several ties to not only Hawai'i, but with Chaminade. WCU head coach Sonia Morales-Jones played for the 'Swords in the mid-1990s while outside hitter Emily Robins is the daughter of Danielle Robins, whose 777 total kills still ranks 15th all-time in CUH history. Danielle Robins also played with Morales-Jones at Chaminade.
 
The first set looked bleak for the Silverswords, who trailed 23-21. However, they ran off the final four points with Allison Panter (Denver, Colo./Portland State University/Denver School of Science and Technology HS) serving all three of her service aces during the stretch to help them steal the opening set.
 
In Set 2, Chaminade used a 6-1 run to open up a 20-14 edge. Allen scored four points during the stretch with three kills and a block to help them take a 2-0 lead.
 
The Mountaineers battled from as many as a six-point deficit in the third set and eventually forced a 23-all tie. But Hinton and Krueger put the final two kills to help the 'Swords achieve their first three-set sweep since the season-opener against Alaska Anchorage on Aug. 20.
 
Chaminade tallied 43 kills on 42 assists while hitting .223. They accumulated 50 digs, six aces and six total team blocks.
 
Western Colorado had 37 kills with 36 assists, 44 digs, two aces and three blocks.
 
The Silverswords will face Seattle Pacific University in the Friday's Day 2 finale of the Hawai'i Challenge at 7 p.m. Western Oregon and Emmanuel gets the day started at 11 a.m. while Emmanuel stays at McCabe Gym to face the University of Hawai'i Hilo at 4 p.m.
