Darrell Matsui

Darrell Matsui enters his 10th year at Chaminade and has nearly 40 years of coaching experience, 27 at the collegiate level.

He began his career under Tony Sellitto at Maryknoll High School in Honolulu in 1978. He was an assistant coach and junior varsity head coach at Maryknoll for 10 seasons before moving with Coach Sellitto to Hawai`i Pacific in 1988.  Matsui was an assistant coach on the Sea Warriors' 1993 NAIA national championship team.  He was also a part of Chaminade’s three PacWest championships and NCAA post-season appearances in 2006, 2008, 2011 and 2013.

In January 2015, Matsui went 2-2 as acting head coach during a road trip while head coach Eric Bovaird remained in Hawai`i due to the impending birth of his and his wife's third child.

Matsui graduated from the University of Hawai`i in 1982.  Matsui’s duties include game preparation, scheduling, and recruiting. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Honolulu and have a daughter, Chani.
