Kyle Milligan

The 2021-22 season is Kyle Milligan's fifth year with the Chaminade University men's basketball team. He was an assistant his first four years before being named the Associate Head Coach in July 2021. In July 2020, he was recognized in Silver Waves Media's 50 Impactful Division II Assistant Coaches.

Milligan's third season in 2019-20 brought the Silverswords new opportunity and team success. The 'Swords finished 18-11 overall and a 15-7 record in the Pacific West Conference, advancing to the conference tournament semifinals for the second straight year. Tasked with running the defense, the 'Swords had their finest defensive season during the Eric Bovaird Era (since 2011-12), with opponents averaging 72.5 points while shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 33.2 from 3-point range, all opponent lows during his tenure. That season also saw multiple successes for several Silverswords which Milligan played a pivotal role in recruiting including Isaac Amaral-Artharee (PacWest Freshman of the Year, five-time PacWest Freshman of the Week) and Kevin Kremer (two-time conference freshman of the week).

In his second year on board in 2018-19, the Silverswords won 23 games, the program's most during its Division II era which began in 1986. The team spent much of the season ranked in the NABC Top 25 Poll including a school-record seven consecutive weeks, peaking at No. 12 on Dec. 21, their highest-ever ranking in the poll. The season concluded with Chaminade advancing to the NCAA West Regional.

In his first year as an assistant (2017-18), Milligan helped the Silverswords to a 16-12 mark and a berth into the Pacific West Conference Tournament for the second straight year and the team's fourth in the last six. With the help of his guidance, the 'Swords were one of the top scoring teams in the conference and was on the plus side of the rebounding margin ledger for the first time since 2013-14. Among the notable wins that season was a 24-point rout of Division I and Pac-12 member Cal in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational.

Tasked with skill development for the Silversword post players, Milligan helped starting center Erk Scheive achieve All-PacWest honors twice including second team kudos in '18-19. In addition to his on-court coaching duties, Milligan's additional responsibilities included recruiting (with an emphasis on the Pacific Northwest, California and international regions), coordinating defensive strategy, film breakdown and presentation, and coordination of the 'Swords' strength and conditioning program.

Milligan coached for Showcase Basketball in Southern California in Spring 2017. He was also a graduate assistant at Division I Long Beach State where he assisted in coaching the post players, overall player development, opponent scouting, video coordinating and day-to-day operations.

Milligan attended the University of Redlands in Redlands, Calif., graduating with a degree in business administration in 2015. He also has experience living in the islands, spending two years at Hawai‘i Pacific University in 2011-13 before transferring to Redlands. Milligan was a four-year starter and a three-time team captain during his collegiate career. He comes from a basketball family where his brother, Sean, played at the University of Redlands, sister Carrie at Pepperdine University and sister Laurie at the University of Tennessee.

The Portland, Ore., native also has his master’s degree in Sports Management at Long Beach State.
