Roman Young

Roman Young joined the Chaminade University men's basketball team as an assistant coach in the fall of 2022. After being a volunteer assistant for two years, he was elevated to the second assistant spot in the summer of 2024.

Young played three years for the Silverswords from 2018-20, totaling 245 points, 145 points and 119 assists with a 3.05 assist-to-turnover ratio during his career. He was a starter in the final two seasons and finished second on the squad in assists both years.

In his first season in a Chaminade uniform, Young played a key role off the bench during the 2018-19 season, helping the 'Swords achieve their first national ranking since 2010, peaking at No. 12 in the NABC Coaches Poll and No. 9 in the D2SIDA Media Poll in December 2018. The Silverswords would win 23 games that season -- the most during the Division II era -- and earn a berth into the NCAA Division II West Regional in San Diego, California.

After graduating from Chaminade in the spring of 2021, Young played as a graduate transfer at Hawai'i Pacific University, seeing action in 11 games, making 10 starts during the 2021-22 season.

Prior to arriving at Chaminade, Young played one season at Mineral Area College in Park Hills, Missouri, where he earned Region XVI Second Team and Midwest Community College Athletic Conference Second Team honors.

A native of Wichita, Kansas, Young prepped at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas, one of the top high school boys basketball programs in the nation.
