Arthur King

The 2021-22 season is the fifth for Arthur King as Chaminade women's basketball head coach and his eighth at the school. King served as an assistant coach for the Silverswords' men's basketball team under current coach Eric Bovaird the previous five seasons before being appointed the fourth head coach in team history.

King is second in the all-time coaching wins list with 13, becoming the fastest in program history to reach the total. He is just nine away from becoming the program's all-time winningest coach.

During the 2019-20 season, King oversaw the conclusion to one of the greatest careers in program history. Guard Destiny Castro, who earned All-Pacific West Conference Second Team honors, became the first Silversword as a four-time all-conference selection. The season saw Castro set the program's career scoring and steals record, just one of 23 career, single-season and single-game marks she set.

In 2018-19, the 'Swords won seven games which not only tied the program record but the five-win improvement from the previous year was the biggest in team history. King also saw Castro's continued improvement when she set several program records en-route to becoming the program's first All-PacWest First Team selection since 2007 as well as the team's first-ever D2CCA All-West Region pick. The team also set new defensive single-season records, allowing 70.7 points per game and allowing opponents to shoot 39.9 percent from the floor.

In King's debut season in 2017-18, the Silverswords committed just 15.3 turnovers per game which is the fewest in program history. He also oversaw Castro's breakout season in which she was named to the All-PacWest Second Team, becoming the first 'Sword to be named all-conference first, second or third team since 2008.

His teams also see tremendous success in the classroom with 30 being honored as Academic All-PacWest during his coaching tenure. The '19-20 team made the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll for the first time in team history, ranking No. 20 in Division II. That year also saw all 10 team members named to Academic All-PacWest.

King also had head coaching experience on the high school level on O‘ahu. He was the head coach for both the boys and girls teams at Le Jardin Academy in Kailua from 2003-09 as well serving as the boys head coach at Christian Academy in Honolulu from 2009-11.

He worked for seven years at the Pete Newell Big Man Camp for professional and collegiate players instructing footwork and body balance. King also coaches at the Pete Newell Tall Women/Tall Boys camp.

King is an alumnus of Chaminade, earning a BA in Business Management and a Master's of Science in Counseling Psychology. Playing under legendary head coach Merv Lopes, King led the 'Swords in scoring and rebounding, averaging 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game while shooting at a 60.9 percent clip in the 1987-88 season. He ranks third in program history in rebounds per game (8.0) and is seventh in the team's record book in field goal percentage at a 57.9 percent clip.
