The 2018 season is the third for Jorge Negron as an assistant coach for the Chaminade University women’s volleyball team.
Negron helped guide the Silverswords to a record-breaking 23-win season in 2018 as the team received an NCAA West Regional berth, the program's first since 2004. Five 'Swords were named to the All-Pacific West Conference Teams while junior outside hitter Emma Tecklenburg not only earned all-conference first team recognition but D2CCA All-West Region Team honors.
In 2017, he helped the program to its record third-consecutive winning season while helping Tecklenburg achieve All-PacWest Third Team honors.
Negron has an extensive experience in volleyball starting in 1991 when he played seven years as a professional in his native Puerto Rico while also playing collegiately at Turabo University in Gurabo from 1992-97. Following his professional career in Puerto Rico, he enlisted in the United States Army and helped represent the Army team at the Armed Forces Tournament from 2000-02.
Negron also played volleyball in South Korea, representing the city of Uijongbu in 2000 and for the High Flyers International Club in 2015. In all, he has over 16 years of AA playing experience around the world including Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and the United States.
Negron has also been involved in coaching as a post-level coach for adults and youth in military instillations in the U.S., South Korea and Germany. He also landed the head coaching gig at Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia in 2012 where he coached for two years. He also coached the Evolution Volleyball Club for the indoor and sand programs while in Virginia in 2013.
In 2015, Negron was stationed in Hawai‘i where he began and is currently coaching with the Spike and Serve Volleyball Club. He also continues to be a post-level coach with the Hawai‘i military.
The San Juan-born Negron received his Bachelor’s Degree from Turabo University in 1997 and his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2009.
He remains an active member of the U.S. Army and is currently working on a personal training certification.
