Chaminade Falls to # 1 Ranked University of North Carolina in Maui

Lahaina, Maui- Chaminade kicked off its season opener with a game against the number one ranked University of North Carolina Tar Heels at the 2008 EA Sports Maui Invitational. Chaminade battled the Tar Heels, but fell 115-70. 

 

Five of the Chaminade's seven players were in double-digits, with junior Shane Hanson leading the Silverswords with 15 points and 9 boards. Senior point guard Darrell Birton scored 12 points, shooting 50% from the floor, going 5 for 10. Joel Smith and Mohamed Tangara had a combined 23 points for CUH.  Tangara had 12 points and Smith contributed 11 points for the Silverswords against the Tar Heels.

           

Chaminade lost the rebounding battle 36-32. The Silverswords shot well from the charity line, shooting 75 on the night. Turnovers cost Chaminade as the Swords committed 24 on the evening.  CUH struggled shooting the ball tonight connecting 25 of the 60 shots they took, while UNC made nearly 61% of their shots connecting on 48 of 79.

 

The Tar Heels were led by Danny Green he had 26 points and 7 rebounds.

 

With the loss tonight CUH falls to 0-1 overall and UNC improves their record to 4-0. Chaminade's next face the University of Alabama tomorrow morning at 11 AM HT in round two of the 2008 EA Sports Maui Invitational at the Lahaina Civic Center. The game will be televised ESPN2.
