Honolulu, HI- Chaminade Women's Soccer can tally a conference win today after defeating the Urban Knights of Academy of Art this afternoon at St. Louis Field.
The lone goal and game-winner for the match came in the third minute as freshman
Brienna Maestas (Camden, NC/Camden HS) scored off a pass from freshman
Tiffany Nakata (Kailua, HI/Kailua HS) in the 3
rd minute.
The game was a see-saw battle after that, as both teams created chances, but did not convert. Several key stops from senior goalkeeper
Marissa Minor (Captain Cook, HI/Konawaena HS) preserved the victory. Minor finished with 10 stops on the match.
Academy of Art's Megan Bucci took a total of nine shots, four on goal.
The Swords were out-shot 18-13 on the match. Four Chaminade players took two shots each on the match and a total of nine Swords took at least one shot.
The victory is Chaminade's first since September 6, 2008, a 2-1 overtime victory against HPU. It also breaks a thirty-five match losing streak.
With the win, the Swords move to 1-4. Academy of Art falls to 1-6-1. Chaminade is back in action at home on October 3rd vs. Academy of Art. Game time is set for 3:30 PM HT on St. Louis Field.
