Women’s Soccer Wins Second Straight

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team made it 2-for-2 midway through their season-ending home stand of the season Wednesday with a 1-0 win over Dominican University of California at Saint Louis Field.

Olivia Leonard (Taylorsville, Utah/Utah Tech University/Skyline HS) accounted for the game's lone goal while senior goalkeeper Sydney Bakritzes (Edina, Minn./University of North Dakota/Edina HS) earned her first career shutout to help the Silverswords record consecutive wins for the first time since 2024.

The win improved the 'Swords to 2-11-1 on the year and 2-5 in the Pacific West Conference, giving them three more points in the standings. The Penguins fell to 6-8-1 and 1-5 in the PacWest.

Leonard got her second goal of the season in the 38th minute when a chested shot by Sofia Desirello (Menifee, Calif./University of North Dakota/Paloma HS) was deflected by DUC goalkeeper Michelle Salas Viniegra. The rebound went right to Leonard who found the middle of the net to break the scoreless deadlock. It was Desirello's first assist as a Silversword and second of her career.

The 'Swords then survived nine Dominican shots in the final 45 minutes to claim their fourth win over the Penguins in the last five meetings including the last three on the Saint Louis pitch.

Leonard took two of the 'Swords' seven shots, both being on-goal. Desirello, Milan Cordone (Las Vegas/University of Northern Iowa/Coronado HS), Shannon Healy (Gilbert, Ariz./Campo Verde), Mackenzie Jamison (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley) and Brooke Perreira (Honolulu/Kaiser) also attempted tries at the net.

Bakritzes made four saves on the day for her fourth career win, two which came at her previous school at North Dakota.

Dominican took 13 shots and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks while Salas Viniegra stopped three CUH shots.

The Silverswords return to action on Saturday in their penultimate game of the season against Jessup University. Kickoff at the Saint Louis Field pitch is noon.
