CUH WSOC: Swords Fall to Dixie State in Home Finale 3-1

HONOLULU, HI- The Swords took on the fifth place Red Storm of Dixie State this afternoon in a physical affair at St. Louis Field and lost by a score of 3-1.           
 
The Swords scored in the 22nd minute with a penalty kick goal by Shannon Wright (Huntington, CA/Edison) to take a 1-0 lead.  The Red Storm took the run of play to Chaminade the rest of the half, finding the post, but not a goal, as CUH led 1-0 at the half.  Dixie State, playing with the wind at their backs, won the first half shot count, 13-3.
 
The second half saw some renewed energy from the Red Storm as Dixie State added three goals in the second half (49th, 55th, 69th minutes).  The game winner went to Alayna Canada, who lofted a ball from distance over Chaminade freshman goalkeeper Kainoa Makua (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) to take a 2-1 lead.  The Red Storm's penalty kick goal in the 69th minute provided a two goal cushion.
 
Freshman Kainoa Makua (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) stopped 8 shots for CUH.  The Swords were out-shot 28-5 on the match.  
 
With the loss, the Swords move to 1-13, 1-8 in conference.  Dixie State improves 7-7, 5-3.  Chaminade is back in action on October 26th at UH-Hilo.  Match time is set for 12:30 PM HT.
