CUH WSOC: Swords Earn Hard-Fought Victory vs. UH-Hilo in Conference Opener

Iwahashi tallies game-winner, Tangalin scores for CUH

HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade took on the Vulcans of UH-Hilo this morning at St. Louis Field and won a back and forth game 2-1 in the conference opener.    
 
Chaminade got on the board first with an excellent finish by freshman Lisa Tangalin (Lihue, HI/Kauai) after a nice cross by fellow freshman Shannon Wright (Huntington, CA/Edison).  The Swords held the lead for the rest of the half and took a 1-0 advantage  to the break. 
 
UH-Hilo responded and tied the game in the 61st minute with a goal from Brianna Lopiccolo.  The Swords were not done, and answered with a game-winner off the foot of sophomore Kristy Iwahashi (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City).  The goal, off a free kick made the score 2-1 Chaminade with 19 minutes left.
 
Freshman Kainoa Makua (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) preserved the lead and ended the day with four saves. 
 
The Swords were out-shot 17-5 on the match.  
 
With the win, the Swords move to 1-3. UH-Hilo falls to 1-3.  Chaminade is back in action on September 22nd . The Swords face UH-Hilo at 12:30 PM HT.
