SAN RAFAEL, CA- The Swords got off to a rough start against the Penguins of Dominican falling behind 4-0 in the opening 45 minutes and despite a strong second half, couldn't recover, falling 5-1 this afternoon to Dominican in Pac West Conference action.
The Penguins jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the 6
th minute by Kendra Corsberg. Tori Selesia added goals in 14
th and 21
st minutes for Dominican, while the Penguins added another goal by Michelle Bella for a 4-0 halftime lead.
The Swords were out-shot 12-3 in the opening half.
Chaminade was impressive in the second half, out-shooting Dominican 6-3 for the half. Freshman
Savannah Clements (Santa Rosa, CA/Ursuline) took three shots for the Silverswords.
Chaminade's second half success would not go unrewarded as the Swords got on the board with a goal by freshman
Alyssa Nagai (Waipio, HI/Pearl City) in the 82
nd minute. Dominican tacked on a goal in the final minute for a 5-1 final.
Coach Ula Rowe, sees progress but wants more. “If we could play the whole match like the second half, we'd be fine. We're not there yet. We have young players and we need to realize we can't wait until halftime. We need a whole ninety minutes, not a great forty-five.”
Freshman
Kainoa Makua (Kailua, HI/Kalaheo) stopped 2 shots for CUH. The Swords were out-shot 15-9 on the match.
With the loss, the Swords move to 1-7, 1-3 in conference. Dominican improves to 3-5, 1-3. Chaminade is back in action on October 1st at Academy of Art. Match time is set for 1:30 PM PT.
