CUH WSOC: Chaminade Falls Just Short Against Vulcans, Lose 2-1

Box Score HILO, HI- CUH fell to the Vulcans of UH-Hilo 2-1 in a close PacWest Conference matchup this afternoon in Hilo. 
 
The Vulcans took control in the opening half of action, as Analysa Rodriguez put a header in the back of the net off an assist from Brianna Lopiccolo via a corner kick in the ninth minute to go ahead 1-0. UHH tallied another goal in the 29th minute as Lopiccolo scored for the Vulcans. 
 
Hilo led 2-0 at the break.  Chaminade stayed close via four saves from freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ishii (Mililani, HI/Mililani) in the first forty-five minutes.  The Vulcans led the first half shot count 10-0. 
 
The Swords rallied back in the second half as sophomore Keke Powell (Kerrville, TX/ Tivy) scored in the 84th minute to cut the Hilo lead in half to 2-1.  Chaminade out-shot UHH 4-3 in the second half, but couldn't get off a shot in the closing minutes in an effort to tie the contest and lost 2-1. 
 
Freshman Twyla Hamasaki (Honolulu, HI/Iolani) led CUH with two shots.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ishii (Mililani, HI/Mililani) made five saves on the match for CUH.
 
The Swords were out-shot 13-4 on the match.  
 
Coach Rowe discussed the match: “Defensively we were sharper today and it gave us the opportunity to compete.  We were too little too late in the attack and ran out of time.  I am not happy with the result at all, but I am happy with the progress we made on the defensive side.”
 
With the loss, the Swords fall to 0-13, 0-11 PWC.  UHH moves to 4-9, 2-8 PWC on the year.  Chaminade is back in action at home against Dominican (CA) on October 26th.  The match is set for 12:30 PM HT.
