Box Score HONOLULU, HI- Chaminade concluded the 2012 Oahu Classic tonight with a defeat at the hands of the Timberwolves of Northwood (MI) 82-49 in a non-conference contest at McKinley HS.
Northwood got out to an early lead and led the Swords by sixteen at 32-16 with seven minutes remaining in the first half. Chaminade trailed the Timberwolves 41-22 at the break. The Timberwolves got out to the 19 point lead on the strength of their defense, holding CUH to 17% shooting (6-35 from the field). Rhani Kaneaiakala (Waimanalo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) led the Silverswords with seven first half points. The Swords were impressive on the offensive glass in the first half, grabbing 13 offensive rebounds in the opening twenty minutes.
The Timberwolves managed to keep CUH at bay, leading by double-digits the whole second half en route to the thirty-three point victory.
Kaneaiakala led Chaminade with 10 points, while freshman guard
Sabrina Angle (Pearl City, HI/Pearl City) added nine points and five rebounds.
The Timberwolves were led by Lauren Robak with 15 points on the contest. Northwood out-rebounded CUH by eighteen, 60-42 on the contest. The Silverswords struggled to get going offensively, shooting 15-68 from the floor, good for 22%.
Coach Keanini discussed Northwood and the 2012 Oahu Classic: "I'm very happy about the games we played in the Oahu Classic. Everything is positive, but we have a long way to go. Northwood is extremely well-coached and as talented as they come. They competed with the #12 team in the nation last night. We gave incredible effort and we executed well. Northwood's shots fell and ours didn't."
With the loss, Chaminade falls to 0-3 on the year. Northwood (MI) moves to 2-2 in preseason play. The Swords head on the road to take on Dixie State in PacWest Conference action in St. George, UT. Tip is set for 5:00 PM MT in Burns Arena on December 3
