CUH WSOC: Great Effort Leads Silverswords to Draw with BYU-Hawaii 1-1

Ishii impressive in goal for Chaminade, stopping 16 shots

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- In a match that finished just before dark, CUH earned an impressive and important 1-1 draw with BYU-Hawaii this afternoon in a PacWest Conference matchup this afternoon on St. Louis Field.
 
Chaminade was tough in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute of action on a penalty kick goal by freshman Twyla Hamasaki (Honolulu, HI/Iolani).  Jill Hara (Kaneohe, HI/Castle) had another Chaminade opportunity just prior to Hamasaki's goal as Hara put a free kick just over the crossbar from 30 yards out. The Swords were out-shot 15-4 in the half, but due to an excellent effort, led 1-0. 
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ishii (Mililani, HI/Mililani) stopped 5 shots in the half.
 
The 'Siders earned a penalty kick early in the second half, but missed the opportunity and Chaminade continued to hold a 1-0 advantage.  BYU-Hawaii, who is locked in a race with Grand Canyon for an NCAA Tournament berth, knotted the contest at 1-1 in the 74th minute with a goal from Sarah Bodily. 
 
A frenetic finish to the second half produced no more goals and the match headed to OT tied at 1 all. Both sides pushed in overtime for a goal, but neither team found the game-winner.
 
Hamasaki led CUH with four shots.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ishii (Mililani, HI/Mililani) was stellar for Chaminade making 16 saves on the match for CUH.
 
The Swords were out-shot 32-9.  The Silverswords draw against BYU-Hawaii means that GCU can earn the PacWest NCAA berth with a win or tie tonight.  A Grand Canyon loss puts the Seasiders in the NCAA tournament. 
 
With the tie, the Swords conclude the season 0-15-1, 0-13-1 PWC.  BYU-Hawaii moves to 10-4-3, 8-3-3 PWC on the year.  The match was the final contest of the year for Chaminade.
