CUH Softball: Silverswords Fall to Grand Canyon 5-0 and 8-2

Hokama and Strom-Okimoto have two hits each in game two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PHOENIX, AZ –The Swords fell in two conference contests with the 'Lopes of Grand Canyon today at Stapleton-Pierson Field on the GCU campus.
 
Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) took the loss for Chaminade in game one, giving up five runs on eight hits in the 5-0 loss.
 
The 'Lopes were led by Kara Holtorf in game one, going 2-3 with two runs scored.   Chaminade's Elia Lizarraga (Torrance, CA/Narbonne) led the way offensively for the Swords, going 2-3 in the first game of the doubleheader. Junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea) had Chaminade's other hit in game one.  After Grand Canyon led 1-0 after three innings, the 'Lopes extended the lead to 4-0 after four innings, scoring three runs in the fourth on four singles.  Pitcher Kiley Raica earned the win in game one for Grand Canyon. 
 
The Chaminade offense got going early in game two as Silversword freshman Shannan Hokama (Torrance, CA/South) had two singles in the first two innings of the second game.  Hokama's second hit was a second inning lead-off single and she eventually scored.  Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin Delta JC) followed Hokama's single with a double, and then RBI singles by Strom-Okimoto and senior catcher Anuhea Yamaguchi (Ewa Beach, HI/Campbell) scored the two runs for CUH. The Swords led GCU 2-0 after the first inning. 
 
The Antelopes responded with three runs off a three-run homer by Stephanie Smith in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead.  GCU didn't look back, tacking on five more runs, including three runs in the seventh inning to earn the 8-2 win. 
 
Both Shannan Hokama and Rayna Strom-Okimoto each had two hits for Chaminade in game two.  CUH had six total hits in the second contest of the day. 
 
 
Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula,HI/Baldwin) took the loss for Chaminade in game two.
 
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against Cal Baptist on March 26st in Riverside, CA. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM PT. 
 
The Swords move to 6-12, 5-7 in PWC with the losses, while Grand Canyon moves to 17-9 overall, 8-2 in the PWC.
