CUH WVB: Swords Swept by #15 BYU-Hawaii in Conference Opener

Spring leads Swords with 9 kills, 7 digs

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- The Silverswords fell in their PacWest Conference opener with #15 BYU-Hawaii this evening (22-25, 14-25, 17-25).
 
The first set was the most competitive, as Chaminade roared back behind the jump serve of Chaminade junior Crystal Powell (Honolulu HI/Word of Life).  Powell ripped three straight service aces to tie the set at 21-21.  The 'Siders responded to the CUH threat and won the set 25-22.
 
BYU-Hawaii took the second set on the strength of a 10-4 run after the set was tied 6-6 early on.  The third set started out 10-2 Seasiders before CUH answered.  A 5-0 run late in the set, cut the BYU-Hawaii lead to 23-17.  The Seasiders Ying Chun Chen ended the match with a service ace and a 25-17 third set victory. 
 
Freshman Kim Spring (Bern, Switzerland/ Feusi Bildungszentrum and Feusi Sportschule) led Chaminade with 9 kills on a .261 hitting percentage.  Senior Whitney Viveiros (Hilo, HI/Kamehameha-Kapalama) was second with 6 kills for CUH. 
 
CUH hit .044 on the match, while BYU-Hawaii hit .323.  Sophomore Brenda Walker (Honolulu, HI/McKinley) led Chaminade with 9 digs.
 
The Seasiders were led by Shih Ting Chen with 13 kills.
 
The Swords drop to 3-6 (0-1 PWC) with the loss. BYU-Hawaii moves to 6-2 (1-0 PWC). Chaminade is back in action Wednesday night as the Swords take on Dixie State in McCabe Gym.  First serve is set for 7:00 PM HT.
