CUH WSOC: Silverswords Just Miss, Fall in OT to FPU 2-1

Ishihara tallies goal for Chaminade

Box Score HONOLULU, HI- CUH lost a close PacWest Conference match in overtime today on St. Louis Field to conference newcomer, Fresno Pacific by a score of 2-1. 
 
The match was close early as both teams had chances in the opening forty-five minutes.
FPU out-shot CUH 7-3 in the opening half.
 
Silversword freshman Twyla Hamasaki (Honolulu, HI/Iolani) created chances for Chaminade with two shots on goal in the half.  Hamasaki had another great chance on a breakaway early on in the second half, but FPU's goalie, Sarah King made the save.
 
Freshman Kristen Fuginaga (Mililani, HI / Mililani) created another chance in the 65th minute, but found the crossbar.
 
Carissa Archie found the back of the net for FPU in the 77th minute to give the Sunbirds a 1-0 lead.  The Swords responded immediately with a goal from Alex Ishihara(Fullerton, CA/ Sunny Hills) off an assist by sophomore Shannon Wright (Huntington, CA/ Edison) to knot the score at 1-1.  Neither team could find the game-winner in regulation and the match headed to overtime.
 
FPU's Jae Slocum notched the game-winner for the Sunbirds in the 99th minute to earn the hard-fought 2-1 win.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Ishii (Mililani, HI/Mililani) was impressive in goal for CUH, stopping 7 shots. 
 
The Swords were out-shot 17-12 on the match.  
 
With the loss, the Swords fall to 0-7, 0-5 PWC.  FPU moves to 3-3-1, 3-1-2 PWC on the year.  Chaminade is back in action at Dixie State on October 6th.  The match is set for 7:00 PM MT.
