WSOC: Swords Fall in PacWest Opener

Box Score HONOLULU – The Chaminade women's soccer team remained winless on the season, falling to Hawai'i-Hilo, 2-0, in the Pacific West Conference opener for both squads.
 
The Silverswords fell to 0-5 and 0-1 while the Vulcans remained unbeaten at 4-0-1 and 1-0.
 
The game was a scoreless deadlock until the 61st minute when Caroline Stromick's shot deflected off a CUH defender and over the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Lauren Ishii.
 
The Swords had a chance to square the game in the 71st minute when a through ball went to Twyla Hamasaki, who weaved her way through two defenders, but her shot toward the goal was caught at the far post.
 
Stromick iced the game with 45 seconds left with her second goal.
 
The Swords had another opportunity at the 83rd minute but Christina Saturnio's free kick from 25 feet out hit the cross bar.
 
Chaminade was outshot 18-7 and had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-6.UHH's Jenna Hufford got the win while Ishii was tagged with the loss.
 
The Swords will have the next nine days off before they return to action on Sept. 30, facing Dixie State on their first Mainland game of the year.
