WSOC: Swords Fall to HPU in Season Opener

Box Score

KANEOHE, Hawai'i – The Chaminade women's soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 1-0 loss to Hawai'i Pacific at Atherton Field. The Silverswords are 0-1 on the year while the Sea Warriors are 1-0.

The Sea Warriors' Lexi Cameau scored the only goal of the contest, connecting on the far post in the 30th minute.

The Silverswords had an opportunity to tie the game in the 63rd minute, but Nagai's header off a Twyla Hamasaki corner kick couldn't find its mark.

Lauren Ishii got the start in goal for the Swords and stopped five shots, while Ishii's opposite, Kelby Boswell, had six saves.

Both teams attempted six shots on goal with the Swords' Alyssa Nagai and Shannon Wright attempting two each.

"There are huge positives to start the year," Chaminade first year head coach Michelle Richardson said. "We're creating a system that they can build and work on. They came off the field today with the confidence to build towards the future. We expect to peak right when we start (Pacific West) Conference. We have a great foundation to build upon."

Chaminade faces Cal State San Bernardino in its home opener next Monday at St. Louis Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 10 a.m.
