HONOLULU – Overtime and the Chaminade University men's soccer team are becoming quite familiar with each other.
For the third straight game, 90 minutes weren't enough to decide an outcome for the Silverswords. And for the second consecutive contest, the 'Swords came out on the short end of the stick.
California Baptist scored two late goals to thwart the Silverswords, 2-1 in overtime, Saturday at Saint Louis Field. The loss dropped Chaminade to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the PacWest. The Lancers improved to 3-4-1 and 2-0 PacWest.
The Swords got on the board first in the 60
th minute when
Nicolas Ferro's kick off
Avinash Singh's centering pass found pay dirt from eight yards out.
The Silverswords staved off several relentless Lancer attacks down the stretch, but in the 86
th minute, Chris Gaitan's 20-yard shot from the left sideline curled past 'Swords' keeper
Bernd Buescherhoff to knot the score with only 4:43 remaining in the game.
The Lancers then got the winner in the fourth minute of overtime when Andrew Reveles' kick deflected off a Chaminade defender and into the net.
California Baptist took 27 shots but only eight were on goal. Chaminade attempted only eight shots, but six were on goal.
Buescherhoff made five saves but took the loss to drop to 3-4 while CBU's Noah Tyler (1-1-1) got the win on four saves.
