Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Azusa Pacific Drops Men’s Soccer, 3-2

HONOLULU – The consecutive overtime streak is over. But the streak of opponent come-from-behind victories continued for the Chaminade University men's soccer team.

For the third straight game, the Silverswords could not protect a lead, this time succumbing to Azusa Pacific University, 3-2, in a Pacific West Conference game at Saint Louis Field.

Carlos Garcia-Partida found the back of the net for the Cougars (6-2 overall, 3-1 PacWest) in the 76th minute for the game-winner, his second goal of the game. Just 13 minutes prior, Kaleb Armbrust knotted the game at 2 on his goal from 10 yards out from the left angle.

The 'Swords (3-7, 2-4 PacWest) struck paydirt first when Colton Gallt fired a shot from the right angle, which was blocked by APU netminder, Tyler Jaramillo. The ball ricocheted to freshman Avinash Singh who stuck the putback in at the 22nd minute, giving the Kamehameha-Maui graduate his first career goal.

After Garcia-Partida's goal tied it at 1, Chaminade countered at the 42nd minute as a scrum in front of the APU net led to Trevor Freeman's first career goal via a header off Gallt's feed as the 'Swords held a 2-1 halftime lead. Gallt's two assists in the game gave him four on the year.

But Chaminade couldn't make the score stand in the second half, giving the 'Swords another one-goal loss. Six of their seven losses this season have been by one goal.

The game was also relatively even on the stat sheet as Azusa Pacific attempted 14 shots to Chaminade's 15. Nine of the 'Swords shot were on goal while APU had eight. Corner kicks favored the Cougars, 12-5.

CUH keeper Bernd Buescherhoff took the loss to drop his record to 3-6. Jarmillo improved to 5-2 while making five saves. Rene Mejia, who started the game in goal for Chaminade, also made five on the day.

Chaminade will conclude its four-game home stand Saturday against Point Loma. Kickoff at Saint Louis Field is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
