HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's basketball team returned from an 11-day layoff, falling to Hawai'i Pacific University, 92-47, in a Pacific West Conference Wednesday at McCabe Gym.
The Silverswords (0-7 overall, 0-3 PacWest) were led by
Katie Buskey with 14 points while pulling down three rebounds and three steals. She also hit 4-for-5 from 3-point range.
Kristle Henry followed with seven points and six assists.
Junior forward
Kennedi Akana contributed with six points and also pulled down six rebounds, moving her past Markeshia Manning for second all-time in career rebounds with 262.
Chenise Peone led the Sharks (8-1, 4-0) with 19 points while Morganne Comstock continued her dominant play with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
HPU shot over 53 percent in the contest while hauling in 52 boards and dishing out 23 assists. Chaminade was held to 24 percent shooting from the floor with 33 rebounds.
The Sharks established control early taking a double-digit lead at 16-5 just five minutes in. But the 'Swords battled back to cut the deficit back to single digits at 19-11 on
Shana Kawakami's 3. However, HPU's 11-2 run would run its lead back to double-digits as the Sharks held a 49-23 lead at the half.
The Sharks continued to their attack mentality, opening on a 14-4 run to begin the second half and never looked back for the convincing victory.
