RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Chaminade University men's soccer team opened their final Mainland trip of the season with a 2-0 loss to California Baptist Thursday at Lancers Soccer Field.
The Silverswords fell to 1-12 overall and 1-9 in the Pacific West Conference. The Lancers improved to 6-7-2 and 5-4-1.
CBU wasted little time in getting on the board, getting a Jeromy Gurule goal less than five minutes into the game. The Lancers tacked on a second goal in the 24
th minute by James Bogdanovich.
The 'Swords nearly got on the scoreboard with just over a minute left in the half when reigning PacWest Player of the Week
Lukas Pousset had fired a shot to the upper half of the net but the ball banged off the crossbar.
The Silverswords defense held firm in the second half, allowing no goals the rest of the way. They also picked up the pace offensively with seven second half shots, a total of 11 in the game. Two of Chaminade's attempts were on goal, one each by
Tyler Braunthal and
Ryan Arkelian. Pousset and Arkelian attempted three shots each.
Rene Mejia made eight saves on the day in taking the loss. Noah Oyler had two for the Lancers in picking up the win.
Chaminade wraps up the road trip Saturday at Dixie State.
