AZUSA, Calif. – The Chaminade University women's soccer team opened their Southern California road trip with a 3-0 Pacific West Conference loss to Azusa Pacific Tuesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex.
The Cougars scored three goals in an eight minute span, the first time this season the Silverswords surrendered three in a game this season.
Katelyn Rogers put APU on the board first when a crossing pass found Katelyn Rogers who tapped the ball in front of the net in the 20
th minute.
The Cougars tacked on another goal three minutes later as Haley Arft's free kick from 35 yards out was perfectly placed over the defensive wall and into the net. APU completed the first half scoring when Mayra Almazan's shot deflected off the right post but got enough of an angle to clip the left side of the post and into the net in the 28
th minute.
But the rest of the 82 minutes, the 'Swords defense was stellar, tossing a shutout against the second-highest scoring team in the PacWest. They allowed only five Cougar shots in the second half.
Twyla Hamasaki got two shot on goal attempts for Chaminade (1-7 overall, 0-4 PacWest) while
Lauren Uehara took the team's other shot on goal.
Lauren Ishii made seven saves for the royal blue and white.
Zoey Bauman got the win with three saves for Azusa Pacific (6-2, 2-2).
The Silverswords face first-year PacWest member Concordia in Irvine, Calif., on Saturday.
