Men’s Soccer Drops Decision to UH-Hilo

HONOLULU – The Chaminade University men's soccer team fell to Pacific West Conference rival Hawai'i-Hilo 3-0 Thursday at Saint Louis Field.

The Vulcans capitalized on a Silverswords own goal 15 minutes into the game then scored again on a penalty kick by Oswel Mariles after a foul was called inside the Chaminade box in the second half. Trenton Hooper added a third goal late to keep the 'Swords at bay.

Hilo improved to 1-2 on the season while Chaminade fell to 0-2. The game was a non-conference match and did not count in the league standings.

Tyler Hoffman got the win for the Vulcans while Bernd Buescherhoff, making his first start of the season, took the loss.

The 'Swords were held to only seven shot attempts in the game with Nicolas Ferro attempting a team-high two. Jaime Sporcic took six of UH-Hilo's 27 shot attempts.

Chaminade is scheduled to play Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday.
