Coburn’s Late Goal Delivers Win for ’Swords

HONOLULUCurtis Coburn's goal with two minutes remaining gave the Chaminade University men's soccer team a thrilling 1-0 win over California Baptist Monday at Saint Louis Field.

The winning shot was set up by Tyler Braunthal whose centering pass found Coburn along the right angle. The freshman blistered a shot past Lancers keeper Riley Mayne to the lower left corner for the game's only score coming at the 87:59 mark.

It was Coburn's team-leading fourth goal of the year while Braunthal got his fourth assist of the season which is tied for the second-most in a single season in program history.

The Silverswords improved to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the Pacific West Conference. California Baptist fell to 6-4 and 2-3.

The win also proved historic as it was the Silverswords' first-ever victory in six tries against CBU which has a strong soccer history. It also moved the 'Swords into a four-way tie for second place in the PacWest.

Bernd Buescherhoff managed four saves to pick up the win. Mayne absorbed the loss for CBU. Guilherme Aires, Yoshinori Tamukai and Nick Kraus also made shot attempts for Chaminade.

The Silverswords return to the pitch Thursday when they face Concordia, one of the three teams they are currently tied in second with. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
