HONOLULU – The Chaminade University women's soccer team played one of their most hardest-fought matches of the year, taking California Baptist to a 1-1 draw Monday at Saint Louis Field.
Down 1-0 and with time ticking away,
Caitlin Tatemichi retrieved a ball 40 yards out down the left sideline then raced down the field for a potential breakaway. But the sophomore was taken down just inside the box and was awarded a penalty kick with just 12 seconds remaining.
The Roosevelt High School graduate then zipped a shot toward the lower right corner of the goal to knot the contest at 1, sending the game into overtime. It was Tatemichi's team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Both teams had opportunities for the game-winner in both the overtime sessions but neither could hit the back of the net in the final 20 minutes.
Tatemichi attempted five of Chaminade's 12 shots on the afternoon.
Nicole Nishiki,
Lauren Uehara and
Jana Kakugawa took two each for the Silverswords who are now 2-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in the Pacific West Conference.
Jordan Taboniar had CUH's other shot attempt.
Brandee Lane made five saves while her counterpart Sara Escobedo made three stops for the Lancers (3-4-3, 2-1-2).
The Silverswords are next in action Thursday when they host Concordia at Saint Louis Field with kickoff set for 12:30 p.m.
